Conceptual Structural Design: Bridges, Retaining Walls, other Structures
Conceptual design establishes the length and width of the structure, documented in a conceptual report. Conceptual layout drawings can be prepared. Conceptual construction cost estimates are prepared to aid compiling the project program costs.
Preliminary Structural Design: Bridges, Retaining Walls, other Structures
Preliminary design establishes the span configuration and structure depth. Feasible structure types are evaluated for efficiency, constructability, and minimum long-term maintenance. The evaluation is documented in a Structure Selection Report. Preliminary layout drawings show the span configuration and structure limits. For bridges, vertical clearance calculations verify that the profile and structure depth provide adequate vertical clearance. Concurrence with the Structure Selection Report and layout are gained.
Final Structural Design: Bridges, Retaining Walls, other Structures
Each structure component is designed provide more capacity than the applied loads, and to function within service limits. Structures of many different types are designed, using experience brought by the Structural Engineering staff: structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, post-tensioned concrete, spliced concrete girders, and composite structures. Design uses linear or nonlinear analysis, as appropriate.
Post-Design Services During Construction: Bridges, Retaining Walls, other Structures
Construction engineering services include reviewing shop drawing submittals, preparing revisions, and evaluating / preparing responses to Requests for Information. Construction assistance includes problem-solving at key construction elements, such as girder erection and post-tensioning.
